A four volume set of DVDs following Shotokan from its early days in Japan, through to the golden years of the 1970-&-80s. The programme is not intended to be a detailed history, for an in depth study we strongly recommend Harry Cook's excellent book - SHOTOKAN KARATE - A PRECISE HISTORY.

Most senior British Shotokan instructors now head large organizations, and have manged to make a career for themselves. The programme shows some of the UK karate pioneers; men and women who helped promote Shotokan in those early days, but have been almost forgotten, their only reward is their selfless dedication. We have made extensive use of still photographs, and digitally enhanced cine film in an effort to put faces to the names of those early students of Shotokan. Inevitably there will be some names that we have missed, and we apologise in advance for any omissions.
